Spring Into Romance Blog Hop

Spring into Romance Blog Hop

Thank you to author, Michele Stegman for inviting me to participate in the blog hop. Check out Michele's blog and see her newest release, The Shrew That Tames.

Author Victoria Roder here to answer a few questions about my writing. Please visit my website to learn more about my books.

Question 1: What am I working on?
A romantic comedy with a working title of Wine, Friends and Murder. I wrote the amateur sleuth comedy mystery as a script and am currently rewriting it as a manuscript.

Question 2: How does my work differ from others of its genre?
My own natural sarcastic attitude shines through loud and clear in my characters. The banter between the co-workers thrown in the middle of a murder investigation is quick witted and sharp.

Question 3: Why do I write what I do?
I wish I only wrote in one genre. Instead, with the way my brain is wired I am all over the board. I write children's picture books, middle grade books, puzzle books, adult detective mystery, paranormal thrillers and devotions.

Question 4: How does my writing process work?
I jot down ideas on gum wrappers and napkins and sometime record ideas from dreams. Taking a ride on the motorcycle or the snowmobile helps me relax and work out plot lines.

Victoria Roder lives in Central Wisconsin with her husband and a house full of pets. She enjoys camping, hiking, shooting bow at targets and sitting by the fire. Victoria Roder is the author of paranormal thriller Haunting of Ingersull Penitentiary, action thriller Bolt Action, picture books An Important Job to Do: A Noah's Ark Tale and What if A Zebra Had Triangles?, Middle Grade Adventures Sled Dog Tales and The Curse of King Ramesses II teen puzzle book and devotion Directions For Life and inspirational pocket book on forgiveness It's Not You – It's Them.

Spring is in the Air Blog Hop

Welcome to the blog of author, Victoria Roder take a look around and win prizes on the Spring is in the Air Blog Hop...

“Spring is in the air.” What do you think of when you hear those words? Love, flowers, allergies or spring cleaning? I’ll be honest when I hear, “Spring is in the air”, I don’t get an overwhelming urge to clean. Instead, I want to run with wild abandon and enjoy the things I’ve been missing during the cold, frozen Wisconsin winter.

Put the vacuum, dust rag and mop aside because I want to take walks with my sweetheart and our fur-babies. I want to camp at my favorite spot, sit around the campfire and enjoy the crackle sound and watch the captivating flame.

I want to listen to a rainstorm with the roll of thunder. And, after a few of those rainstorms and the salt is off the rode, I want to hop on the motorcycle and ride to no specific destination. This year it may be hard to believe, but Spring is on it’s way. What have you been looking forward to doing?

Why don’t you ride along with Harley riding, Detective Leslie Bolt in Action Thriller, Bolt Action from Champagne Books. Detective Leslie Bolt uses sarcasm instead of beating the crap out of stupid people. She is a smart talking, gun hording investigator forced to work a serial murder case with her sexy ex-lover.  After a childhood of abuse suffered at the hand of her father, Leslie sleeps with a Ruger Blackhawk .357 under her pillow, has a Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker rifle in her broom closet, and a Saturday Night Special stashed in her road-hog cookie jar. The body count mounts and Detective Bolt must conquer her own past, as she races to capture “The State Quarter Killer” before her sister is the next victim.

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Week 22: THE NEXT BIG THING BLOG HOP

Author Victoria Roder, Bolt Action from Champagne Books

“The past few years have been full of high profile reads—50 Shades of Gray, Twilight, and more. Love them or hate them, you have to admit you have at least heard of them.

As Independent Authors we all dare to dream we will be next, and well let’s face it, you never know ... right?  With some hard work and the right marketing any one of us could be the next most talked about Author.

With that thought I jumped on this Hop, what is a blog traffic hop? Well I didn’t know until I asked.

Basically, it’s an Independent Authors game of tag.

One author posts, and then tags five other authors, who each link back to them. Exponentially it is a marketing gold mine, and you my fair reader have hopefully just increased your to read list. Finding new and exciting authors you may never have found otherwise. Some of us are still writing, others are just being released.

Either way, for you Fiction Lovers, a treasure trove awaits and I’d like to thank fellow Author Carol Marvell for tagging me to participate. Please check out Carol's website and books.

“In this particular hop I and my fellow authors each in their perspective blogs have answered 10 questions where you get to learn about our current WIP (Works in Progress) as well as some goodies as to our process, from characters and inspirations to photographic/ cinematic eye candy! I hope you enjoy it!
If this or any other items pique your interest, please feel free to comment and share your thoughts and questions.”
HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS
1: What is the working title of your book?
The Haunting of Ingersull Penitentiary

2: Where did the idea come from for the book?
As a huge Ghost Hunters® fan, I was fascinated with their episode that took place at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. What a perfect setting for a ghost story.

3: What genre does your book fall under? Paranormal Thriller
4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Hailey Price played by Ashley Judd

Nathan Christopherson played by Dwayne Johnson
Braxton Turner played by our own Jimmy Thomas

Katie Macy played by Kathy Bates
Tattoo Teddy Macy played by Sam Elliott

5: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
It might be Heaven checking into The Big House Inn, but it is Hell checking out.
6: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? Traditional Publishing.
7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? About a year and a half.
8: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? The Haunting of Hill House.
9: Who or What inspired you to write this book?
My sister Helen is a paranormal investigator in California. I find that fascinating and I’d love to join her on an investigation. She’s my older sister and would probably cover my eyes like she did when a naked man jumped in the pool we were at, when I was in high school.
10: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Opening weekend of a haunted penitentiary, turned bed and breakfast, may be the last as guests battle an ancient evil for their very souls. Converting the former federal prison, into the “The Big House Inn” swallowed Hailey Price’s inheritance from her murdered mother and deceased father’s estate. But, with any luck, the rumors of the federal complex being haunted will boost interest of the Inn. The abandoned Penitentiary, cursed by a witch, is in a constant battle of good verses evil, an eternal struggle for the souls that enter the complex. The paranormal thriller, The Haunting of Ingersull Penitentiary is Ghost Ship meets Shutter Island.
Below you will find authors, who will be joining me by blog, next Wednesday. Do be sure to bookmark and add them to your calendars for updates on WIPs and New Releases! Happy Writing and Reading!!

Do You Have a Love/Hate With Your Scale?

Tomorrow is my first weigh in, after, my first week at weight watchers. It would be so embarrassing to mess up in the first week, so keep a good thought for me. Please share your stories. I'd love to hear if weight watchers, or some other plan helped you reach your goals.
I've been on every goofy diet out there. The cabbage soup diet, the green bean and beet diet (I hate beets), and the popcorn diet. I even tried the grapefruit diet, several low carb diets and the vegetarian route. I thought about doing a baby food diet, because everytime I open a jar of baby food I gag on the smell.
Come on, fess up, what have you tried?

Ride along in Action Thriller, Bolt Action, as gun hording, Harley riding
Detective Leslie Bolt must face her past to capture ‘The State Quarter Killer’
before her sister is the next victim.

If it wasn't for bad luck...

It’s Friday the 13th! Are you superstitious? Superstitions are any belief that is based on fear and is inconsistent with the known laws of science. We’ve all heard the common superstitions that lead to bad luck, but I found a few new ones that I have never heard of that I’d like to share.

*It is bad luck to turn a loaf of bread upside down after a slice has been cut from it.
*It is bad luck to leave the house through a different door than one used to come into it.
*If a candle blows out, evil spirits are nearby.

How about one for good luck.

*If you catch a falling leaf on the first day of Autumn you will not catch a cold all winter. Just so you know, I’m going to take the entire staff and the children outside to catch leaves this Fall and see if it works.

Anyone have a superstition to share?

In Action Thriller, Bolt Action from Champagne Books, Detective Leslie Bolt is a smart talking, gun hording, Harley riding investigator forced to work a serial murder case with her sexy ex-lover. Secrets of the past, murder, deception, sexual tension, and “The State Quarter Killer”, Bolt Action offers it all.
